Les huiles renouvelables de Repsol arrivent sur le Dakar 2025
Repsol begins 2025 with the introduction of renewable lubricants into top-level competition. The Dakar Rally, one of the most demanding tests in the world of motorsport, will serve as the perfect stage to demonstrate the performance and efficiency of these next-generation lubricants.
These are Repsol's renewable lubricants
Repsol's renewable lubricants, developed at the company's Technology Lab, have been formulated with more than 70% of renewable vegetable base. These offer the same performance as conventional ones, but they reduce the amount of virgin raw materials of fossil origin used, lengthening the useful life of the oils used and reducing the environmental footprint.
In this way, Repsol offers the market products that not only meet the highest quality and performance standards, but also seek to contribute to a more sustainable future. This commitment to innovation is aligned with Repsol's goal of being a net zero emissions company by 2050.
Dakar 2025: a test bench for innovation
The 2025 Dakar Rally, which is held from January 3 to 17 in Saudi Arabia, presents itself as a new step by Repsol in motorsports innovation. This competition, known for its extreme toughness and challenging conditions that vehicles and riders are subject to, is the ideal one to put Repsol's renewable lubricants to the test. Thus, two renowned teams, Repsol Toyota Rally Team and Toyota Gazoo Racing, will compete in the top category, Ultimate, using next-generation products.
Isidre Esteve, Repsol Toyota Rally Team rider, faces his third participation in the Dakar Rally with the Hilux T1+. Esteve, who has been using renewable fuel since 2021, now becomes one of the first riders to use renewable lubricant for the engine. "We feel we are part of this energy transition," the rider highlighted in the team's presentation. "We have the satisfaction of being more efficient in this regard and helping to have some high-quality products that allow us to be as competitive as possible. We are very happy to contribute in such a direct way to this change," he added.
On the other hand, the collaboration between Repsol and Toyota Gazoo Racing, which started at Dakar 2024 with the development of renewable fuels, now extends to the entire World Rally-Raid Championship. This strategic agreement doesn't just strengthen the joint commitment to innovation, but also provides Repsol Technology Lab's engineers and scientists with a priceless platform for the development and testing of high-performance products under real competition conditions.
The combination of renewable fuel and lubricant at Dakar 2025 marks an important step in Repsol's sustainability strategy. Javier Ariztegui, director of product design, energy systems, and deep tech at Repsol, has underlined that a test like this "gives extraordinarily valuable information to create the products that we put in the hands of our customers." Thus, the data compiled during the competition will be crucial to continue optimizing the products that go on the market.
