More laboratory, more application: ASELUBE's university course takes a practical leap

The Spanish Association of Lubricants (Aselube) and the Univesidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) have held the second edition of their Specialization course in automotive and industrial lubricants, which offers 90 hours of training to specialize in this field. This year, it has deepened its focus on applied learning: more lab testing, more classroom practice, and a structure designed to connect concepts to their actual use in the field.

This training program has once again counted on the collaboration of the main companies in the sector. In this way, different Repsol Lubricants professionals have participated as teachers, sharing their vision and knowledge of topics such as the lubrication of cogeneration engines, compressors, heavy-duty vehicles, and marine engines, or safety in manufacturing and distribution.

"It is a very interesting area that we touched on briefly in our degree, so I saw that it was a good opportunity to delve deeper into it," explains Carlos Valdés, a student of Industrial Engineering at the UPM and a student of this edition of the Aselube course. "I used to see the world of lubricants as much more distant. I didn't know it was such a broad field," he adds.

For him, the key to this edition has been the balance between theory and practice. "We have done many tests, both in the laboratory and in the classroom. For example, in class we did contaminant testing with some basic field measurement kits," he continues, stressing that "it's not all about studying for an exam, but about understanding the global vision and how it would be applied."

After the training sessions, the course also offers internships in collaborating companies. "As the training progressed, I liked it more and more and wanted to delve deeper by doing the internships," explains Carlos, now in the Technical Assistance and Development (TAD) department of Repsol Lubricants, where he is continuing what he has learned.

With this evolution, Aselube's course reinforces its commitment to training that connects science with real experience.
