The best of 2025 at Repsol Lubricants: a year of growth and big changes
2025 has been a year full of great news for Repsol Lubricants and this blog has witnessed all of it. In this period we have strengthened our international presence, where the acquisition of 40% of Unioil Lubricants has stood out, a company with which we are already producing and distributing in the Philippines. Thanks to this agreement, we have added a fifth Repsol manufacturing plant to the existing ones in Spain, Mexico, Singapore, and Indonesia.
However, what has surely caught your attention the most has been our brand evolution, a way for you to continue experiencing performance. This new stage brings great news, and many of it is yet to be discovered, so we invite you to follow us on the newly launched Instagram account so you don't miss a thing.
We have also had time to look and remember where we came from, with a track record that accumulates decades of innovation, global expansion, and experience in the highest level of competition. But most of all, it's a story we've continued to write this year. So let's go over the highlights in the blog over the last 12 months.
In 2025, we have strengthened our relationship with top-level motor racing. Toni Bou has won his 38th world trial title with Repsol Honda HRC, but we have also increased our presence in other disciplines.
This is the case with the sponsorship agreement with Toyota for the World Rally Championship, resuming the historic alliance that in the 1990s won two World Championships with Carlos Sainz at the wheel. For this reason, in the blog we dedicate an article to explain how we work on the supply and development of lubricants with the Toyota teams and, in addition, we had the pleasure of interviewing Isidre Esteve, Repsol Toyota Rally Team driver.
It has also been a year of reunion in motorcycling. From the Cheste circuit (Valencia), we announced our partnership with Dorna Sports, organizer of the Motorcycle World Championship, to become the exclusive supplier of lubricants for Moto2 and Moto3 until 2030. "This agreement allows us to continue innovating and improving our products to offer the best to our customers," said Clara Velasco, director of Repsol Lubricants.
The Repsol Lubricants blog has also been the place from which the company's daily innovation and development work has been made visible. Thus, we have dedicated different articles to explain in detail how the Repsol TechLab, a leading technology center in the field of energy in Spain, operates.
This is the case with the Fuels and Lubricants Formulation Laboratory, a place where basic science meets technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, 5G, and the internet of things. All to continue improving day by day in the formulation of lubricants, including new product lines such as renewable oils. We have also dedicated space to the Engine Laboratory of this same center, where different test cells are used to house and test all types of engines simulating real operating conditions.
It should be noted that more than 200 scientists work at the TechLab in different research and development tasks for the entire company. This year, we have interviewed two of them in the Repsol Lubricants blog: Silvia Fernández and Francisco Sanz, experts in lubricants, who told us about their day-to-day, what projects they are working on, and the trends in the sector.
These innovations are the ones that then reach the different production plants. This is why we have also dedicated a post to the manufacture of lubricants in Puertollano, where we describe what the process is like from the mixing of the base oils with the different additives until it reaches your engine. In addition, we have interviewed Juan Carlos Calatrava, plant manager, to learn first-hand how the energy transition and digitalization are addressed.
All that scientific work ends up translating into everyday experiences. To connect both worlds, we have continued to disseminate different innovative projects, such as the carbon footprint calculator or the use of biodegradable synthetic oil as an alternative to traditional pesticides. In addition, we have reported on technical concepts, but crucial to offer the best performance, such as tribology or sealing.
Of course, without forgetting the usual engine maintenance tips, where we have published guides like these:
We close 2025 with the satisfaction of having brought innovation where it matters: to your day to day. It has been a year of expansion, top-level competition, and science that transforms into real trust in every start. Thank you for joining us on this journey. We will continue to tell you about progress, stories, and learnings in 2026 from the blog and on our Instagram account. Ready for the next road!
