The best of 2024 in the Repsol Lubricants blog
At Repsol Lubricants, we believe in the importance of staying informed on the latest trends and innovations in the sector. That's why, throughout 2024, we have shared a large variety of articles, from practical tips for maintenance to the latest news about our products or innovative projects.
To bring this year to a close, we want to share a selection of the most notable articles that we have published. A chance to remember the topics that have set the trend in the lubrication world and to anticipate the trends that await us in the future.
1) Repsol Reciclex®: a union of innovation and sustainability
Repsol Reciclex® has been one of the great initiatives of the year at Repsol Lubricants. It is a novel material composed of polyolefins and polyols made from plastic waste.
Through advanced technologies, we incorporate this waste into virgin polymers, managing to maintain the same properties as the original ones. In this way, the resulting containers incorporate 60% post-consumer plastic. In this post, you will find an infographic in which we detail the entire process.
2) The digitalization of production at Puertollano
Digitalization and process optimization are two of the fundamental pillars for Repsol Lubricants. That's why, the Puertollano plant (Ciudad Real) has become a benchmark thanks to its Production Sequencing project, which allows for more efficient planning of product mixing and packaging, minimizing waste and production costs. We tell you more here.
3) Simulation testing: Repsol's digital twins
Digital twins are a leading trend in all types of industries. Basically, these are tools used to create a virtual clone of a physical place or element.
This year, Repsol Lubricants has made a strong commitment to this technology, thanks to a collaboration with the Universidad de Vigo. Thus, we have managed to develop a tool that allows us to understand the behavior of oil in different types of engines, virtually. Discover what it consists of in this post.
4) A project to develop lubricants using nanotechnology
Repsol has collaborated with Tekniker, a leading research center in Éibar (Gipuzkoa), in a project to apply nanotechnology in developing additives, a key component for oils.
The results are promising, since friction has been reduced by 14%. We give you more details in this article.
5) The calculator that measures lubricants' carbon footprint
Repsol has developed Arrhenius, an innovative carbon footprint calculator, which allows the environmental impact of lubricants to be measured. The project, initiated in 2020 and led by Martí Cortada García, Product Design Sr. Scientist at Repsol, has involved various departments of the company.
Martí Cortada García herself offers a more detailed view in this interview, where she explains in depth how it works, the challenges faced during its development, and how this initiative fits into Repsol's decarbonization strategy.
6) Álex Barros: "Everything that works on the track finds its way onto the street"
Álex Barros, a legendary name in world motorcycling, has been one of the guest stars of the Repsol Lubricants blog in 2024.
In this interview, the former rider reveals to us the lessons from his sporting career and takes us into the world of technological innovation, explaining how experience on the track translates into advances for everyday motorcycles on the streets. Don't miss it!
