Repsol and Valtec form joint venture to drive lubricants business in Central and Eastern Europe
Repsol Lubricants has acquired 44% of Valtec Premium Lubricants SRL and has formed a joint venture with Valtec B.V. Through this deal, Repsol takes another step in its international expansion strategy with the new company acting as a partner in Romania, Bulgaria, and Serbia. The deal also includes a distribution contract for 14 other countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The new company, therefore, will be Repsol's strategic partner throughout the region.
The partnership is based on a long-standing relationship between the two companies. Valtec, with a logistics center in Bucharest, has been an exclusive distributor of Repsol Lubricants since 2008 and serves 17 countries in the region, with special importance in Romania and Bulgaria. Since 2021, Valtec has increased its sales by 60%, consolidating its role as a strategic partner for business development.
The new company's plan is clear: to double the volume sold within four years. To achieve this, the strategy prioritizes the promotion of the highest-quality products in the automotive portfolio — especially motor oils for passenger cars and motorcycles — and the development of the spare parts channel and the B2B segment. Also included in the deal is a significant improvement in logistics efficiencies throughout the network and the establishment of local manufacturing agreements when they provide competitive advantages.
"This operation strengthens our ambition for international growth and brings us even closer to professional and industrial customers in the region, with a differential value proposition based on technology, quality, and service. The combination of Valtec's local knowledge and Repsol's capabilities will accelerate the capture of opportunities in priority markets," said Clara Velasco, director of Repsol Lubricants. "We have been developing a relationship of trust with Repsol for more than a decade. This natural step allows us to gain speed, expand our offer and raise the level of service to our network and customers in 17 countries," said John Roskott, CEO of Valtec Premium Lubricants Srl.
This operation is part of how Repsol Lubricants is deploying its business strategy. At the end of 2025, the company unveiled its new identity, espousing a "Hi-Tech & Hi-Touch" concept, and activated its Full Potential program, which articulates more than 80 initiatives in innovation, digitalization, sustainability, and international expansion. The goal is to double business by 2030, with the Valtec joint venture making a direct contribution, fully oriented to availability, service, and efficiency.
