Repsol improves the quality of all its motorcycle oil ranges
08 May 2025

At Repsol Lubricants, we have always worked to offer our customers products that meet the highest standards of quality and performance. We are therefore pleased to be able to announce a major improvement in all our motorcycle lubricant ranges, which now comply with the most demanding market standards: API SP and JASO T903:2023.

In addition, this update is accompanied by a change in the design of our labels, clearly highlighting the superior quality of our products.

Standards update: what do API SP and JASO T903:2023 mean?

The API (American Petroleum Institute) standard is one of the most recognized international standards in the lubricant industry. The API SP category, which our products now meet, represents the highest quality available for motorcycle engine oils. Compared to the previous API SN, the API SP offers:

  • Increased protection against LSPI (low-speed pre-ignition), a phenomenon that can severely damage modern engines.
  • Reduction of wear, sludge, and deposits.
  • Improved resistance to oxidative thickening, which prolongs oil life and optimizes engine performance.

On the other hand, the Japanese JASO T903 standard is specifically designed for 4-stroke motorcycles, considering the unique needs of these engines, such as clutch and gearbox lubrication. In May 2023, the latest version of this standard, JASO T903:2023, was approved, introducing key improvements:

  • Stricter limits on chemical composition, such as phosphorus and evaporation loss.
  • Inclusion of advanced categories such as API SP and SN Plus.
  • Increased precision in friction parameters, improving gear shifting feel and power transmission.

New label design

These updates ensure that our lubricants meet the expectations of the most demanding drivers. For this reason, we have renewed our labels to facilitate the identification of product quality. Technical specifications, such as API SP and JASO T903:2023, are now clearly visible on the front of each container.

Repsol motorcycle lubricants: what is the difference between Smarter, Racing, and Rider?

Whether you ride a sport bike, a scooter, or a classic, our lubricants are designed to take care of your engine and enhance your experience on every ride. We understand that each type of motorcycle rider has different needs. That's why we offer three ranges designed to adapt to all of them:

1. Racing range

The Racing range is designed for those seeking maximum performance under extreme conditions, whether for competition, leisure, or passion. All products in this line now comply with API SP and JASO T903:2023 standards, ensuring superior protection against wear and deposit formation and optimal performance even at high temperatures or under high pressure.

2. Smarter range

The Smarter range combines accessibility and quality, making it perfect for passionate riders who use their motorcycle as a means of daily transportation. Within this range, we highlight the Smarter Sport 4T line, with semi-synthetic products that have the highest quality available on the market. Thus, it offers excellent protection against wear and oil aging, with its versatility for different types of engines and driving styles also standing out.

3. Rider range

The Rider range is designed for those looking for an economical and reliable option. These lubricants offer good protection and performance for motorcycles used in everyday contexts. Although they are not oriented to top-level competition or extreme conditions, they are perfect for keeping your bike in good condition without compromising your budget.
