Repsol and Toyota: a historic alliance that shines again in the World Rally Championship
Repsol and Toyota have decided to resume a partnership that marked an era in the 1990s, when together they won two world rally championships with Carlos Sainz at the wheel. Now, this alliance returns to the World Rally Championship (WRC), in the WRC2 category, with Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada as protagonists.
For Repsol, top-level competition has always been a perfect stage to test the latest innovations and improve the quality of its products. In this case, the multi-energy company is supplying lubricants to optimize the performance of the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, vehicle of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Spain team, under extreme conditions. This experience will allow valuable lessons to be learned that will later be applied to the products that reach the general public.
A promising debut in the Rally Islas Canarias
The Toyota Gazoo Racing Spain team will be present in seven races of the 2025 World Rally Championship calendar. The debut took place at the Rally Islas Canarias, held from April 24 to 27, where Cachón and Rozada had a spectacular start to the season. Specifically, the duo took second place in the WRC2 category and Chacón was crowned winner in the WRC2 Challenger.
Thus, Cachón and Rozada showed a competitive pace from the shakedown, where they set the second-best time, until the final stages, when they achieved several scratches and kept the pressure on the leader.
"We scored very good points towards the championship and a start of the season like this is a dream. In addition, the support of all the Canarian fans has been incredible. I am very happy with this result and I have to thank the whole team and our sponsors, because without them this would not be possible," said Chacón after the race, while Rozada emphasized that "starting the season fighting for the victory was very important."
Looking ahead: Rally de Portugal
After this promising debut, the next event for the Toyota Gazoo Racing Spain team will be the Rally de Portugal, to be held from May 15 to 18 on gravel. This event represents a new opportunity to continue accumulating points and demonstrate the potential of the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, powered by Repsol lubricants. With each leg driven, this partnership promises to continue writing memorable pages in the history of motor racing. See you in Portugal!
